Created in collaboration with Studio MUTT.&nbsp; Photography by&nbsp;Greg Holland. Wild is an exhibition about our relationship with the natural world. Definitions of this relationship are represented differently across cultures and time but the thread connecting them is a degree of control over nature: from romantic landscape artists gazing out across semi-fictional landscapes, to indigenous groups restoring their ancestral lands after a damaging colonial legacy, to communities rewilding small parts of urban Manchester. <img width="1870" Jul 2023 15:10:49 +0000 Thom Isom https://thomisom.cargo.site/Liverpool-Biennial-2023 Liverpool Biennial is the UK’s largest festival of contemporary visual art. In 2022/23 I worked with their team to design and deliver the identity for their 12th edition. Slavery – or the impact of colonialism – is central to the work in this year’s festival, which spans eight exhibition venues and five outdoor works. Entitled uMoya: The Sacred Return of Lost Things, it is as much about the horrors of the past as it is about the healing potential of the future. The same experimental vision and spirit of possibility that changed an empty veneer factory and brewery warehouse into an art gallery guides their work today. They commission and produce contemporary art, supporting international and UK-based artists to make their most ambitious work to date by pursuing new directions in their practices. In summer 2022 I worked closely with Chisenhale Gallery to design a new booklet, a piece of print and digital book that shares information on their projects and complimentary images from current and past high profile projects. An annual commissioning programme takes the form of public art, site specific film happenings and cross platform productions. Exploring the evolving ways that trade, borders and even nations themselves are developing in the age of the internet, at the heart of the programme was the main exhibition, which featured newly commissioned work from a range of international artists experimenting with the overlap between art and technology. Musicians, film makers and producers from the UK and East Asia were invited to take part in discussions around the challenges and possibilities of working with film and music. I worked closely with the programmers of the lab to establish an identity. This translated into all areas of print, promotion and presentations; including a 20 page programme.
